Our job in November 2008

In November we were working on another part of the project Comenius-School partnership according to the plan. The task was „The beginnings of religion in Slovakia”.
On 13th November 2008 the teachers Mrs Náčináková and Mrs Jurisová went on an excursion to Nitra with our children. We visited the castle in Nitra because we wanted to get the information about the arrival of Cyril and Methodius in the area of Slovakia. There was a lecture prepared for us. A theologian Viliam was talking about Cyril and Methodius or about the first church established in Nitra.
After we came home, we started to work on the project using the pieces of information we had about the beginnings of religion in our country. The pupils were drawing the maps, they depicted the influences of religion, the most important towns and sights.
Another group of children wrote a report with the most important pieces of information and prepared the test for their friends in schools of our partners. They also translated the text into English at their English lessons with the help of an English teacher Mrs Damková.
In the end of November we sent the maps and texts to our partners.

One of the goals within the project Comenius is to know some historical sights of our adscendentes, so after Easter holiday we made a journey round the sacred places in the eastern part of Slovakia called Gothic route. The Gothic route is one of the cultural and cognitive places in Slovakia. It’s divided into four circuits and a visitor can visit some castles, preserved centres of historical towns, museums and cathedrals as well as some village churches, burgess-ship houses or romantic stone bridges.

Wedding ceremony

A week after Easter our pupils prepared a wedding ceremony in the Open Air Museum in Martin. They were dressed in the folk costumes. In the school they learned the Slovak traditional songs and dances. On this project worked about 70 pupils of our school and they enjoyed it. The day of the filming was a beautiful day and the weather was great. In the school pupils made a film with subtitles and created the DVD.

Cooking

In January and February 2010 the work on the project Comenius School Partnership has continued as our pupils prepared some traditional meals of our Comenius partners. The Czech Republic – a school in Zlín was responsible for making a cookery book and according to it we made one meal from each country. To be honest we must say that not every meal turned out well because we made them for the first time. All meals were delicious, especially the meals from Turkey. The combinations of ingredients and herbs are for us unusual and interesting and the meals were as well. We enjoyed German Black Forest Cake, Polish coffee cakes and Vegetable Salad, Czech South Bohemian potato soup and of course we most enjoyed our traditional meals – bryndza dumplings and strudel.
